Work weekend was a success

Hole 5 Tee Box

It was a very long weekend, with a lot of work being accomplished.

Adam and I worked quite a few hours on Friday getting the materials together, cutting and drilling 4×4’s and cutting rebar. We also put up the remaining two teesigns.

On Saturday we started at about 9am and worked till around 6pm, with Coleman in the mix. We went hole by hole, building the box, leveling it as best we could and filling it with stone dust and lime.

The hardest part of the whole project was the amount of shoveling we had to do, and all the wheelbarrow pushing. Some holes we had access to with the truck, but not all of them. Hole #4 was the worst, and in turn still needs a few loads of stone in it, but is 100 times better than it was.

Sunday it was just me and Adam at the course finishing up 5’s box. It took about another 3 hours.

In all we built and filled 5 teeboxes this weekend. Plans to finish the remaining 4 boxes have not yet been set, but I would guess within a month or two they will also be completed.

Tee Box Weekend May 9th

We have finally decided on a weekend that we will begin putting in tee boxes on the course. On Friday, May 8th, we will be picking up materials for the tee boxes and doing a bit of prep work. On May 9th, the fun begins as we level the ground for most tees and build the tee boxes. Hopefully during that week, the borough will have dropped of a ton or two of stone dust that we will use for the surface of the tee pads. Once a few of the boxes are built, we will start filling them in. The first 5 holes (the woods) will most likely be our starting point.

The warm weather is upon us

The snow is gone and the weather is looking better every day. I did some work on the course today, cleared away a lot of fallen trees and debris that had piled up during the winter months. I also cleaned up one basket, that had been the target of some paintballs. The course is playing very nice, because there are no leaves out and all the undergrowth is dead. Teebox construction will be starting in the next month or two. So keep checking back for updates and schedules work days.

A much needed update

Hello all,

It’s been a very long time since any new news or updates have been posted on here. With all this snow on the ground it makes any work on the course impossible, but we have some big plans for when the weather gets warm. This summer the club plans to finish the work on the tee signs and build the information board near the first tee where there will be a full course map, rules sign, place for scorecards and pencils and other information on events at the park and in the surrounding area. The big project is going to be getting the teepads done. We plan on digging down and placing wooden frames in the ground and filling them with a mix of crushed stone and lime to make a nice hard surface for teeing off.

The club has also been throwing around the idea of possibly adding one to two more holes to the course sometime in the near future. They would most likely be more wooded holes because that is where the most free space is available.

Signs are almost done

Adam and Myself worked on the course signs today, since people still keep ripping them off the trees. All but two signs now have plexiglass and 4″ lag bolts. The other two will be finished next week. Also, Under the rules sign there is now a full course map.

I am also still hearing that sometime in the next year or two our website designer is going to make this page worth looking at. Just as soon as he finds a way to loosen up his schedule.

Time for an update

It has been quite a while since any news has been posted up, so i figured I would give everyone a little update on the course.

We are in the process of scheduling a work weekend to get textboxes built and installed. This will include 4X4 frames filled with crushed stone. We are also in the process of getting the rest of the permanent tee signs put together an installed.

Also there has been a rumor floating around that this page is going to be getting a fresh new look SOON, so keep watching for that.

Disc Golf Demo Day Sunday August 3rd!

Contrary to the actual Old Home Week schedule the demo day will be held on August 3rd, from 11am -1pm as stated in the original article in the FC News. The demonstrations will be held on the upper soccer field due to the fact that the cow plop bingo is going to be utilizing the space next to the gazebo. We will be making another announcement about this during the Pierogi Eating contest on Saturday afternoon. As stated there will be throwing demonstration, putting demonstration, and instruction on how the game is played. We also have free discs to give away.

I played on tuesday and left my yellow putter in #9’s basket. It has a cutsom dye on the top of it and i would really like to get it back. My name and phone number were on the back of the disc. There is a reward involved for it’s return.

Kennedy Park DGC Demo Day!

We will be holding a disc golf demo day at Kennedy Park on August 3rd (Sunday of OHW) from 11am til 1pm and everyone that shows up will receive a free disc golf disc. We will be teaching the basics of throwing and putting and cover the basics of playing the game and keeping score. Parents and kids are encouraged to attend.

Do to the constant destruction of tee signs #2 and #9 we used to some new mounting methods. The laminated signs are now sandwiched between 1/2″ plywood and 1/4″ plexiglas and secured to the trees with 4″ lag bolts. We have more plexigas on order to make frames for the signs.
